SCOTTIE DIVISION

OPTIONAL CAR RULES

Effective August 1, 2002

  1. The shell of body may be mounted flush with the bottom of the floorboard. The nose may be dropped to 8 " minimum height. An 11 1/8" wooden dowel rod is to be placed directly behind rear plate and the top of the shell to control rear shell height. The height at the front of the cockpit must be a minimum of 11 1/8".
  2. The body may be attached only with screws in the floorboard and/or nailer strip. The screws may be counter sunk. The screws and the floorboard seam may be taped over. You must be able to remove the shell without removing the axles and/or the steering cables.
  3. Headrest and two-part body seam may be assembled using epoxy, screws, bolts, or rivets only. Body filler may be used to fill seams. No fiber cloth or carbon fiber may be used. The floorboard may only be sealed with tung oil and or wax. Paint is not permitted on the floorboard (top and/or bottom).
  4. Standard AASBD cockpit cover and hinge must be used in the standard size opening. A 3/4 " X 3/4" bulkhead may be installed in the underside of the cockpit cover. Cockpit cover and headrest opening may be reinforced per Scottie plans.
  5. Optional Scottie cars must use AASBD 2004 mandatory mount plates, brackets, nuts, and bolts.
  6. AASBD kingpins and bushings must be used. Only AASBD parts may be used, with the exception of cable adjusters, axle stops, and brake pedal assemblies, which may be of your choice.
  7. Only AASBD airfoils may be used. No fillets can be used to contour the airfoils to the body. Airfoils may run inside or may be cut off to outside of body. Tape and/or foam may be used to seal the body.

MASTERS DIVISION RULE CHANGES

STANDARDIZATION AXLE MOUNTINGS AND AIRFOILS

EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2003

  1. The new AASBD mounting plates and 3-point alignment brackets must be used effective August 1, 2003. You may use the washer stack of your choice on both axles and brackets.
  2. These plates are predrilled and laser cut. They may be lightened by drilling cutouts to enable larger participants to make maximum weight. Original outline of plate and predrilled holes must be maintained.
  3. You may mount the brake pedal and weight on the plate with the axle stops of your choice.
  4. AASBD kingpins and bushings must be used.
  5. Only AASBD airfoils may be used. No fillets can be used to contour the airfoils to the body. Airfoils may run inside or may be cut off to outside of body. Tape and/or foam may be used to seal the body.
  6. All nuts and bolts must be AASBD issue.

2003 SUPER STOCK RULE CHANGES

  1. Two (2) additional bushings must be installed under the rear angle iron and optional steel plates. Two R washers may be used in place of the bottom plate and must not be flush to the floorboard. (optional on existing cars with aspen floorboards; not permitted in the particle floorboard)
  2. No washers may be drawn flush to the bottom of the floorboard. A straight edge must be able to catch the edge (360 degrees) of the washers to verify compliance. If two (2) or more washers are found in violation, the floorboard must be replaced.
  3. The particle board is not permitted after August 1, 2003.

STOCK DIVISION RULE CHANGES

  1. Two (2) additional AASBD bushings must be installed under the radius rod stabilizer block in the aspen floorboard. (Optional in existing cars with aspen floorboards; not permitted in the particle floorboard) Washers on the bottom of floorboard at the bushings may not flush to the board.
  2. No washers may be drawn flush to the bottom of the floorboard. A straight edge must be able to catch the edge (360 degrees) of the washers to verify compliance. If two (2) or more washers are found in violation, the floorboard must be replaced.
  3. The particle floorboard is not permitted to be used after August 1, 2004.

2003 GENERAL AGE AND PARTICIPATION RULE CHANGES

Rule 1.01 Soap Box Derby racing is open to all persons ages 8 through 17. Eligibility to register and race is determined under these guidelines: Stock and Super Stock Divisions: Participants must be 8 years old by the date of their local race. Participants may race through age 17, but they must not turn 18 years old before August 1 of the current racing year. Masters Division: Participants must be 10 years old by the date of their local race. Participants may race through age 17, but must not turn 18 years old before August 1 of the current racing year.
Rule C-2.03 The divisions may be selected in any order. A contestant may begin in any division, and may return to previous divisions until all three divisions have been won (age restrictions enforced).
Rule C-2.04 If a car has participated in an All-American Local Championship in Akron, the car, nor any part of the car, will not be permitted to race in another Official Local Soap Box Derby race. This message was from the AASBD mailing list
